This is the first edition of our monthly market report, and it exists to answer a question the weekly columns cannot: over a full month, did anything actually change? Every week we publish the same fee table; this report aggregates those weeks, adds the month's events, and ranks the venues, networks and rails on total cost.
August 2026 turned out to be a month of zero fee changes. All eleven tracked venues held their schedules, with six majors sharing the 1 USDT TRC20 floor throughout, while TRON shipped its largest upgrade of the year, energy held a six-week low band, and every incident that mattered happened above the rails rather than on them. Below: the full month, with the rankings and the arithmetic.
🏦1. The Month's Fee Table: Eleven Holds, Zero Changes
| Exchange | TRC20 Fee (Aug) | Change in August | Min | Rank by Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OKX | 1.0 USDT | held all month | 2 USDT | 1= (six-way tie) |
| Binance | 1.0 USDT | No change | 10 USDT | 2 |
| Bybit | 1.0 USDT | No change | 10 USDT | 2 |
| KuCoin | 1.0 USDT | No change | 10 USDT | 2 |
| Bitget | 1.0 USDT | No change | 5 USDT | 2 |
| MEXC | 1.0 USDT | No change | 2 USDT | 2 |
| Gate.io | 1.5 USDT | No change | 10 USDT | 7 |
| Crypto.com | 1.5 USDT | No change | 10 USDT | 7 |
| HTX | 2.3 USDT | No change | 1 USDT | 9 |
| Coinbase | 2.4 USDT | No change | 1 USDT | 10 |
| Kraken | 2.5 USDT | No change | 5 USDT | 11 (most expensive) |
⚡2. Energy: Six Weeks in One Band
TRON energy never left its low band in August. Best-ask held between 26 and 30 SUN across every weekly check we ran (verified 2026-08-23 and 2026-08-30), which kept the arithmetic stable all month: ~65,000 energy for a standard USDT TRC20 transfer costs ~1.69 TRX rented at 26 SUN, versus a ~6.5 TRX burn if the sending account holds no energy. That is an ~74% saving, and it is the single largest cost lever available to anyone moving USDT wallet-to-wallet.
Two developments during the month reinforced it from the supply side. JustLend DAO launched a "Buy Energy" function in August that the project estimates cuts costs by up to 64% versus burning, and reported more than 80,000 users on its Energy Rental service by September 1. TRON's own Q2 report, published September 3, recorded the burn ratio falling another 5%, attributing it to users staking TRX for energy instead of burning it. Users, products and the network's own data are all pointing the same way.
Takeaway: August is now the longest stable-energy stretch we have tracked. Nothing about the rent-versus-burn decision needs revisiting.
🌍3. Monthly Network Rankings — Total Cost on $1,000
| Rank | Network | Venue Fee | Network Cost | Total (approx) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | TRON (TRC20) | 1–2.5 USDT | $0 with energy | ~$1.00–2.50 | Best all-round: cheap, fast, universal |
| 2 | BNB Chain (BEP20) | 0.29–1 USDT | ~$0.05 | $0.34–$1.05 | Cheapest only if receiver is on BSC |
| 3 | Solana | ~0.5 USDT | ~$0.01 | ~$0.51 | Narrow but excellent where supported |
| 4 | Ethereum (ERC20) | 2.5–15 USDT | $3–$15 gas | $5.50–$30 | Use only when required |

📐5. What the Month Actually Cost — The Arithmetic
Take a realistic month: four USDT withdrawals of $1,000 from an exchange to your own wallet, then four wallet-to-wallet transfers. On the most expensive path — Kraken at 2.5 USDT plus a full ~6.5 TRX burn each time — you pay 10 USDT in venue fees plus about 26 TRX (~$8.80) in network cost, roughly $18.80 for the month. On the cheapest path — a $1-floor venue like OKX plus rented energy at ~1.7 TRX — you pay 4.00 USDT in fees plus about 6.8 TRX (~$2.30) in network cost, roughly $6.30 for the month.
The difference is about $12.50 a month, or roughly $150 a year, for doing nothing more than choosing the venue and the rail correctly. Most of that (≈ $6.00 in fees, ≈ $6.50 in network cost) comes from two decisions you make once and then forget.
Takeaway: August's numbers say the same thing every week did: the gap between the best and worst path is worth more than any single fee change, and it costs nothing to close.
🧭6. September Watchlist
- BNB Chain's zero-fee USDC/USD1/U program expires September 30 — watch for another extension, and for whether USDT is ever included.
- SEC 24-hour trading roundtable on September 17 — the item most likely to change fiat withdrawal cutoffs at bridging venues.
- Liquid Network's return negotiation — whether a halted rail can restore withdrawals intact is a live test case for every sidechain.
- Singapore's MAS stablecoin consultation and G20 follow-up work — both point to issuer requirements landing in Q4.
- Energy: after six weeks in a 26–30 SUN band, the first move either way will be the story of the month.
Zero fee changes, zero energy movement, TRON's biggest upgrade landed without touching costs, and every incident was a platform-level halt rather than a rail failure — the month's best summary is that the cheap path never moved.
